Increasing CO2 Emissions in Asian Countries

In recent years, CO2 emissions have been increasing along with economic development, especially in Asian countries. Among them, the rate of increase is particularly high in Vietnam. According to data from the European Commission, Vietnam's total annual carbon dioxide emissions in 2018 were 271.5 Mton, an increase of 12% compared to the total emissions in 2017 (242.5 Mton), and the rate of increase is the highest among Asian countries. With global warming becoming a worldwide issue, it seems that people in Vietnam are beginning to think about taking measures to be more environmentally friendly.

In many countries in Southeast Asia, plastic waste such as plastic bags and straws are clogging drains, leading to flooded roads and widespread ocean pollution. In addition, plastic products produce CO2 in the process of manufacturing and incineration, leading to the problem of global warming. In Vietnam, disposable plastic bags and plastic containers are widely used not only for straws but also in all aspects of daily life, making plastic waste a familiar problem.
With the widespread use of smartphones and the ability to keep up with what's going on in the world via the Internet, young people and intellectuals with a high level of environmental and eco-consciousness are shifting to using their own bags and eco-friendly straws. Some food manufacturers have begun to develop and produce straws made of rice flour that are easily returnable to nature. In the near future, Vietnam is expected to play a leading role in environmental efforts as it looks to export its products to other countries such as Japan and South Korea.
