生後1か月時点での完全母乳率が高いのは、アメリカと日本で5割を超える。
日本では、生後6か月でも完全母乳で育つ赤ちゃんが約半数であるのに対し、他国は完全母乳率が下がり、粉ミルクなどを併用している。特に中国・シンガポールでは、生後6か月の赤ちゃんのうち完全母乳で育っている赤ちゃんは数パーセントにとどまる。
