The rate of exclusive breastfeeding at one month of age exceeds 50% in both the United States and Japan.
In Japan, approximately half of all infants are exclusively breastfed even at six months of age, whereas in other countries, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding declines, and formula is often used in combination with breastfeeding. In China and Singapore in particular, only a few percent of infants are exclusively breastfed by six months of age.

The rate of full breastfeeding at one month of age is higher than 50% in the U.S. and Japan. In Japan, about half of six month old babies are fully breastfed, while in other countries, the percentage of fully breastfed babies has fallen and formula milk is used in combination. Particularly in China and Singapore, only a few percent of six month old babies are fully breastfed.
