The country with the shortest working hours in Asia is Japan with 37.8 hours. * Among the 13 targeted countries, UAE has the highest percentage of workers working 49 hours or more per week at 46.5%, while Germany has the lowest at 5.9%.

While most countries have a male labor force participation rate of 70-80% for all males over the age of 15, the UAE has an outstandingly high rate of 90%. By age, the age at which the labor force participation rate drops below 60% varies by country. The countries where the rate drops below 60% at 60 years old and over are China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. The countries where the rate drops below 60% at 60 years old and over are Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the UAE, and Myanmar. Indonesia, in particular, has the highest labor force participation rate of people aged 65 and over of these 18 countries with 56.5%.

The countries where primary industry workers (Elementary occupations and skilled agricultural, forestry and fishery workers) account for more than 30% of the country's total are China, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, India and Myanmar. In India and Myanmar, in particular, more than 50% of the country's workforce is in the primary industry. The countries which have a relatively high percentage of people working in service and sales (service and sales workers) at over 20% are Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. Vietnam (72.6%) has the highest female labor force participation rate among the 18 countries, followed by Singapore (61.8%) and China (59.8%). In contrast, in India (20.3%) and Saudi Arabia (22.3%), female labor force participation rates are relatively low compared to other countries. By age, among the Asian countries, East Asia (Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea), Singapore, and Malaysia peak in their late 20s, while Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines peak in their late 30s to 40s. Vietnam, the United Kingdom and Germany are high even in the early 50s, at more than 80%. In Japan, there is a so-called "M-curve," which peaks between the ages of 25 and 29, falls gradually and then rises again. The same is true of Korea. India is only 30% even at its peak of 40-44 years.
