[Vietnam] Popular cars are different in the north and south
Did you know that there are differences in car preferences by city? In this study, we analyzed the differences in preferences by city from a panel, a nationwide sample of about 8,000 (May 2018).
According to Vietnam's 2014 mid-year census, Hanoi ranks first in terms of car ownership at 6.3%. When analyzing the attributes of car owners, the characteristics are striking. Basically, car owners in Vietnam are rich. The best-selling cars among the "B" class are entry-level hatchbacks, and even among the same hatchbacks, there is a tendency to be particular about design and other aspects of vanity. Will the hatchback be the key for the vain Hanoians?
The third largest car ownership rate is in the northern province of Quang Ninh, where Halong City is located, at 5.7%. An analysis of the average age of car owners shows that this is the youngest province. It is also a region where many owners have a strong sense of fun to drive, or perhaps it is the oratorical type that ran around the Shonan area a long time ago. So, it makes sense that American cars that stand out with their orange color would sell well.
The car ownership rate in the metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City is surprisingly low, ranking 9th at 4.4%. The cars that sell well are MPVs and SUVs, in other words, large cars are popular. Moreover, cars with three rows of seats that can be easily used for family trips by two or three families are the main vehicles. The average age of car owners is the highest compared to other cities, and "safety and security for the family" may be the keyword.
In recent years, Binh Tan District, which is also popular among Japanese people, has become the most popular area for car owners in Ho Chi Minh City, but recently there has been an increase in new residential areas far from the center, such as Thu Duc District.
