A popular chocolate specialty store in Siem Reap opens a store in the capital city of Phnom Penh, creating a buzz among young women.

Wat Chocolate, a chocolate brand founded in 2018 in Siem Reap, the city of Angkor Wat, has expanded to the capital Phnom Penh in 2022, attracting young women as a fashionable item. In Siem Reap, the brand was popular among foreign tourists and others as a high-quality souvenir, but in Phnom Penh, it has become popular mainly among local middle-class and above women in their 20s. Since opening a store in the Bang Keng Kong district in the center of Phnom Penh, the company has gained a reputation for its sophisticated packaging design, and has attracted attention as a gift for Christmas and birthdays.

In addition, the store offers a café space to enjoy luxurious chocolates and coffee, and is also used as a café. Wat Chocolate uses Cambodian cacao to produce and sell bitter chocolates with a high cacao content ranging from 46% to 100%. Popular products include Sea Salt with 70% cacao ($5.5) and Dark Milk with 48% cacao ($5.5). The company is the first in Cambodia to conduct "Bean to Bar" production, which involves the entire production process from cacao to chocolate. In addition to directly managed stores, the company's products are sold at five-star luxury hotels such as Rosewood, Raffles, SOFITEL, and HYATT REGENCY, establishing an image of luxury and fashion.

Cambodia's first chocolate specialty store's product development for health-conscious people attracts attention

The difficulty of purchasing chocolate in Cambodia, where it is always summer, is a thing of the past. In urban areas, air conditioning and refrigerators have become widespread, making it possible to buy chocolate. In Phnom Penh, "Brown Coffee," established in 2009, sparked the popularity of cafes, and since then, cafes have been serving chocolate cake and other items along with drinks. In Cambodia, where there have been no specialty chocolate stores until now, Wat Chocolate's products have attracted attention from trend-conscious women because of their high cacao content, bitter chocolate, gluten-free and vegan products, and other health-conscious features. The company's products have attracted the attention of trend-sensitive women.
