New Platform “Bluesky”
From traditional centralized to “decentralized SNS

"Bluesky" is a new and expanding app in the Philippines as an alternative to "X (formerly Twitter)". Founded in 2019 by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, the new platform "Bluesky" allows ordinary users to create accounts in February 2024. While X, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are the most popular social networking sites in the Philippines, Bluesky has emerged as a new competitor to these sites.
Bluesky's unique feature is that it is not controlled by a single company, and users are free to set their own objectives and rules; whereas X displays certain ads, Bluesky allows users to block certain content they do not want. Content filtering can be customized, and a list of blocked or muted users can be easily shared, allowing for a variety of settings.
Another attraction for young people is that it is a “decentralized SNS,” with multiple servers working together to manage information. Generation Z, who grew up in an Internet environment, understands the dangers of SNS, but they use Bluesky smoothly and effectively.

Hiding settings by filtering function, etc.
Local young people's comments indicate that the system is easy to use.

A man who uses the service said, “Above all, it is easy to use. Bluesky's home page is similar to X's, but I use it because it has better filtering options to block harmful pages,” and ”X had complaints about impressionable zombies (accounts that post unsolicited messages to increase their views) that repeatedly send meaningless replies. They also said, “I use "Bluesky" because I can choose to hide, warn, or show adult content, violent content, hate group icons, spam, and spoof accounts.”
However, for those older than Generation Z, especially those in their late 30s, some said that “creating an account is a hassle,” and as they get older, they find the settings more cumbersome, so the number of users decreases, and the application is currently mainly for Generation Z.
