<Data Joke> [Singapore] People who live overseas!

images

After finding don don donki in Singapore, life in Singapore for Japanese is much more convenient than before, I think. Getting Japanese product had not been difficult even before donki, but it was EXPENSIVE! it has been drop from … 2-3x expensive than Japan price to 1.5-2x which is affordable now. Ups, actually because of the recent JPY exchange rate, the price went up higher a bit again though. For this few years, I counted JPY as around 80JPY for 1SGD but now its… 100JPY. 100JPY!!! So cheap. I guess, its such a good timing to plan for trip to Japan once the boarder restriction turns down.

If you are a Japanese and your salary is based in JPY, your like in Singapore would be tougher around 20% decrease of your salary… Tough. How do you manage it? On top of that living cost in Singapore itself has increased a lot recently. Well I actually feel that foreign population in Singapore has decrease a lot. Not sure…

Population in brief (2022) shows that Non-resident population in Singapore (basically foreigners) decrease a lot in 2021. Singapore population structure is unique that around 30% of population is foreigners. Then it decreased by around 13% compared with 2019, before COVID. Also it seem Japanese population living overseas decreased a lot too. Since 1989, it is the first time that overseas population decreased. I'm wondering how it goes in few years.

I heard many stories why people actually decided to leave Singapore or go back to their home country. Also Singapore stopped accepting new visa application for a while. Well, at the beginning of COVID, there are few news that people were kicked out due to violation of regulation (Not funny at all…). I think there must be many Japanese who couldn't or didn't want to go out from Japan. I can tell that people may feel scared to go overseas under COVID regulation… Everybody! It is no longer scary to be overseas! I guess life is almost moving to "after COVID". Come to enjoy life out although flight is still a bit expensive…
