Many people found out that relaxing in a hot spring and enjoying a massage are appealing
In recent years, Japanese-style hot springs and spa facilities have been increasing in Thailand.
The number of repeat customers is increasing as the hot spring promotes blood circulation, relaxes the body, provides skin care effects, and offers Thai and herbal massages.
In July 2018, a hot spring and spa facilities called “Panpuri Wellness” opened on the 12th floor of Gaysorn Village, a luxury shopping mall in central Bangkok. The price is 700 baht (about 2,100 yen). You can enjoy the view of Bangkok while soaking in the hot tub, and you can also order a high-grade massage. Also, in the mountains of the northern province of Chiang Mai, “Onsen at Moncham” opened in June 2018, using local hot springs. It is a luxury resort hotel in the style of a Japanese ryokan, and is gaining popularity for its Japanese tastes; at 20,000 to 90,000 baht per room per night (about 60,000 to 270,000 yen), targeted at wealthy people who want to relax in nature.
The trigger of this movement was "the Yunomori Hot Spring & Spa", which opened in Bangkok in December 2012 as Thailand's first Japanese-style hot spring and spa. It is a full-scale spa that uses hot spring water transported from Kanchanaburi province in eastern Thailand. The spa is well known for its cleanliness and comfort, with detailed instructions on how to use the spa, such as not putting towels in the bathtub, and proper water quality management. The fee is 450 baht (about 1,350 yen).
The boom in travel to Japan has made people less resistant to hot springs.
There are hot springs in Thailand as well, but usually people bathed in swimsuits or just tried footbaths. There was no custom of bathing naked with family, friends, or strangers, and at first the Japanese hot spring culture seemed very embarrassing and difficult to accept. However, with the recent boom in travel to Japan, more people have tried authentic hot springs and are no longer resistant. In addition ”the Yunomori Onsen & Spa” provides black disposable underwear for women to use in the onsen, and some people find it easier to enter the onsen by wearing this underwear.A yukata can be rented free of charge, and you can take pictures at the Japanese-style rest area and enjoy Japanese food at the restaurant inside the facility, which is another attraction of the spa.
