The two founded the company in 2018 after Rafael Jang, who was suffering from acne, overcame his skin problems with traditional skin care recommended by his friend Michael Lim in Pranakan. They have created a new era of Planakan cosmetics by combining natural ingredients from all over the world with ancient and unique Planakan plant ingredients such as fermented rice water and pandan leaf (an herb used in hot regions such as Singapore and Malaysia) to create the latest technology. The products are free of allergy-inducing ingredients such as parabens and artificial colorants, so even sensitive skin can use them without worry.
The company also donates a portion of its sales to the Pranakan Association and NGOs around the world as part of its CSR activities. Top-selling products include the BEDAK SEJUK FUSION MASK, priced at S$148 (about 12,000 yen).
Changes in Singapore's cosmetic trends: the rise of local cosmetics
Until now, cosmetic trends in Singapore have been dominated by Western, Japanese, and Korean brands. However, since around 2017, local cosmetic brands such as Sén Natural, Sigi Skin, and Allies of Skin, led by Pura Skincare, have been emerging one after another and attracting attention. In addition, there has been a movement among young people to support local brands, which has been an encouraging tailwind for Pura Skincare. The Singapore government supports local brands and products as part of its efforts to revitalize the tourism industry. As part of this support, a select store for local brands only was opened in Orchard Road, the center of tourism and shopping. In the store, local products in various fields such as apparel, miscellaneous goods, food, and cosmetics are lined up, and the products of "Pura Skincare" are also sold.
