[Indonesia] Consignment shopping for overseas cosmetics / Shopping app "Jastip" is popular

Request the product you want rather than one that is pre-sold.

Jastip (Jasa-titip), an app used by young women in Indonesia, has become popular because it allows users to buy what they want from sellers instead of buying what is available on the app. Domestic goods from IKEA and Informa, which have a limited number of stores in Japan, and foreign products such as Japanese and Korean cosmetics, fashion accessories, clothing, and food are popular on the app. While the price can be negotiated between the buyer and seller, some sellers charge a margin of 10% to 30%, and in some cases, the negotiations break down. This is a hand-carry system, so there are no taxes to worry about. There are a variety of exhibitors, from spending money to business, and it is a system that is beneficial to both sellers and buyers.

The appeal of this system is that it is easy and hassle-free to purchase items while traveling

“Jastip” is a business model that emerged from travelers to Japan or South Korea earning extra money by purchasing requested items during their trips and bringing them back. Most app users are women in their 20s and 30s, and commonly ordered items include cosmetics and fashion accessories. Since many products are priced around 1,000–2,000 yen, they are easy to buy casually and carry home, which is one reason the service spread quickly.

There are several Jastip apps, but “Hellobly” is among the most popular. By connecting with registered buyers around the world, users can purchase products from many different countries. Because the app acts as an intermediary and offers refunds if items are not delivered, it provides a sense of security. This trust in the platform is likely to drive further growth in its user base.
