Commentary

South and Southeast Asia tend to have the highest average household size. Of these, Malaysia has the largest number of household members, with 4.56. This is followed by India (4.38), Indonesia (3.86), Vietnam (3.44), and Thailand (2.84).
Western countries and Japan have fewer average household members than the others, all with less than 2.5 persons.
The average household size in East and Southeast Asia has been declining significantly. China is down -14.4% over 10 years, and Thailand is down -11.5% over 14 years. Other countries with declines of 10% or more compared to historical data are South Korea (-12.2%), Vietnam (-10.9%), and the Philippines (-10.8%).

南アジアと東南アジアは平均世帯人数が多い傾向がみられる。中でも最も多いのがインドで、4.57人。次いで、マレーシア(4.56人)、インドネシア(3.86人)、ベトナム(3.78人)、タイ(3.69人)が続く。 欧米諸国と日本は他と比べて平均世帯人数が少なく、いずれも2.5人を切る。 東アジアと東南アジアの平均世帯人数は著しく減少傾向にある。中国は10年間で-14.4%の減少で、タイは10年間で-14.0%の減少。その他、過去データと比較して10%以上減少している国は、韓国(-12.2%)、ベトナム(-10.4%)、フィリピン(-10.8%)。
